Softball Game Preview: Abernathy Antelopes vs. Sudan Hornets

For the second straight game, Abernathy will face off against Sudan. The Antelopes will host the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Abernathy has six straight victories, Sudan has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, Abernathy beat Sudan 12-9.

Lily Adames made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylie Rexrode, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Kendal Miller, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Abernathy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in ten consecutive games.

Abernathy pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.3 runs over those games. As for Sudan, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10-1.

Sudan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Abernathy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Sudan, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Abernathy's sizable advantage in that area, the Hornets will need to find a way to close that gap.
