Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Derek Rivers and Nolan Nelson Lead Creekside to Victory

Creekside won the last time they faced Ponte Vedra and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Creekside Knights came out on top against the Ponte Vedra Sharks by a score of 57-47. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

Leading Creekside to victory were Nolan Nelson and Derek Rivers. Nelson went 7 of 11 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds, while Rivers went 8 of 9 on his way to 21 points. The contest was Rivers' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Yussef Elmaadawy, who posted four points in addition to six boards and five assists.

Ponte Vedra's loss came despite strong showings from David Sanchez Barrera and Trace Westercamp. Sanchez Barrera went 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Westercamp went 6 of 12 on his way to 15 points. Sanchez Barrera has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Ryan Speace was another key player, putting up two points.

Creekside is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Ponte Vedra, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5.

Creekside will take on Fleming Island at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fleming Island has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Ponte Vedra, they will challenge Fletcher at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
