The Wagener-Salley War Eagles were the 72-55 winner over the Pelion Panthers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Wagener-Salley took a 60-42 bruising from Pelion on Friday. Wagener-Salley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Pelion's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jayden Gunnels, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds. Gunnels continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas New, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Wagener-Salley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Pelion, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wagener-Salley will face off against Brookland-Cayce at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pelion, they will head out on the road to face off against Gilbert at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.
