Given their disadvantage in the MaxPreps state rankings, St. Joseph-by-the-Sea should expect quite the challenge on Friday. They will look to defend their home turf against Xaverian at 7:30 PM. St. Joseph-by-the-Sea are limping into the match on a four-game losing streak.
There's no need to mince words: St. Joseph-by-the-Sea lost to Fordham Prep last Saturday, and they lost bad. The score wound up at 0-37. St. Joseph-by-the-Sea's defeat came about despite a quality game from sophomore Jackson Tucker, who accumulated 270 passing yards and picked up 29 yards on the ground. Tucker has been a consistent playmaker for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea as this was the 4th good game in a row from him.
Meanwhile, after having lost a blowout in their matchup two weeks ago against St. Mary's Ryken, Xaverian were happy to find some success. Xaverian took down Mt. St. Michael Academy 44-28. The high-flying offensive effort was a definite turnaround from Xaverian's flat performance the game before.
Xaverian's victory lifted them to 2-2 while St. Joseph-by-the-Sea's loss dropped them down to 0-4. In their win, Xaverian relied heavily on junior Shane Greene, who rushed for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns. St. Joseph-by-the-Sea will need to find a way to minimize his impact if they want to win.
