Floyd Central has gone a perfect 4-0 against North Harrison recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Highlanders are taking a road trip to take on the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Floyd Central will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
While Floyd Central's win against Corydon Central wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Highlanders' pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 2-0 shutout last Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Highlanders have posted against the Panthers since May 17, 2017.
The team relied heavily on Elise Coleman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. Kiersten Fiedler also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Floyd Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, North Harrison had just enough and edged out New Albany 8-7 on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by just one run.
Kendall Christie made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. Christie was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Kendal Maher and Cora Inboden did most of the damage at the plate: Maher scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Inboden went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Inboden a new career-high. Gabby White was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Floyd Central's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for North Harrison, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Floyd Central was able to grind out a solid win over North Harrison in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Highlanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
