After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Carterville, Murphysboro was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Massac County Patriots 6-5. This was a revenge game for the Red Devils: when they faced off against the Patriots two weeks ago, they had to take a 3-2 defeat.
Arianna Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Macey Alexander was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Landrie Green also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
