The West Cowboys won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They were beaten by Africentric Early College 69-5. While losing is never fun, West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 779th, while the Nubians are ranked 92nd).
Africentric Early College was led to victory by Kamryn Grant and Natiah Nelson. Grant scored 18 points, while Nelson scored 14 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaunie Little, who scored seven points along with three steals.
West's loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-16. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.8 points per game. As for Africentric Early College, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 17-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West is on the road again on Friday and plays the 76ers at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. As for Africentric Early College, they will take on the Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Marion-Franklin is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
