The Holmes Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their eighth straight loss. They lost to O'Connor on the road by a decisive 45-28 margin. Holmes lost against O'Connor in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 28-10 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Holmes lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayden Hopkins. Despite the final result, he picked up 147 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Martinez, who threw for 311 yards and a touchdown.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead O'Connor to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luke Valdez, who picked up 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Valdez hasn't dropped below 100 receiving yards for seven straight games. O'Connor also got a significant boost from Brandon Martinez, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 82 yards.
Another reason for the win was O'Connor's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Holmes' QB won't forget Mateo Carrizales anytime soon given Carrizales sacked him twice.
Holmes has yet to win a match on the road this season, leaving them with a 1-9 record. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.3 points per game. As for O'Connor, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-7.
Holmes does not have any more games scheduled as of now. O'Connor also has no future games currently scheduled.
