Gainesville is 1-7 against Trenton since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hurricanes will be playing at home against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Gainesville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Gainesville turned things around against Oak Hall on Wednesday. They blew past the Eagles 18-8. The Hurricanes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Chris Eckhardt was incredible, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Taylor Brewer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Gainesville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, on Thursday Trenton's undefeated season almost came to an end. They had just enough and edged out Lafayette 4-2. Those four runs were actually the fewest the Tigers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Trenton's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Pierson Weatherilt, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Trenton's victory bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Gainesville, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Gainesville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Trenton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Gainesville might still be hurting after the 14-6 loss they got from Trenton when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Hurricanes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
