The Morse Shipbuilders will square off against the Oceanside Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Morse will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Morse had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Lincoln Academy on Monday. The Shipbuilders were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Eagles. With that victory, the Shipbuilders brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Morse got a massive performance out of Caleb Harvey, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Nolan Becker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Morse always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Oceanside had taken Medomak Valley down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Mariners might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-1 to the Panthers, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Mariners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jake Watkinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Oceanside is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Oceanside saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dom Frisone, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Morse pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Oceanside, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Morse has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Oceanside struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
