The Hempstead Bobcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against East Bernard, falling 61-32. While losing is never fun, Hempstead can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1397th, while East Bernard is ranked 568th).
East Bernard got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Abby Hudgins out in front who scored 16 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Those seven steals set a new season-high mark for her. Ashlynn Lemos was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with eight assists and three steals.
Hempstead's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for East Bernard, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hempstead will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bellaire at 12:00 p.m. on December 28th. East Bernard will be home for the holidays to greet Hitchcock at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hitchcock is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
