The Freeman Flyers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Irene/Wakonda by a score of 72-59. That 72-59 margin sets a new team best for Freeman this season.
Leading Freeman to victory were Tate Sorensen and Luke Peters. Sorensen dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Peters scored 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Aasen, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Irene/Wakonda's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jens Hansen, who scored 16 points. Hansen scored a full 27.1% of Irene/Wakonda's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Hayden Hansen, who scored 14 points.
Irene/Wakonda struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Freeman pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
Freeman's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Irene/Wakonda, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-7.
Freeman will head out on the road to face off against Bridgewater/Emery at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Dakota (Bridgewater/Emery is ranked 81st, while Freeman is ranked 91st). As for Irene/Wakonda, they will be playing at home against Gayville-Volin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
