No big-name boys basketball signees on November National Signing Day? No problem for Atascocita, No. 2 in the most recent MaxPreps Texas Top 25.
The Eagles of coach David Martinez are rolling along at 24-1 and lead District 16-6A with a 6-0 mark.
Atascocita has only four seniors on its 12-man roster. The Eagles are young and are not particularly big, either. The team's tallest player is 6-5 junior
Donzae Peacock.
But the lack of towering height has not kept the Eagles from wins this season over No. 3 Clear Creek (League City), No. 4 Lancaster and No. 6 DeSoto.
Carsen Edwards is the Eagles' leading scorer for the season, as the 5-9 junior guard has scored 22 or more in four of six district games.
Two more juniors, 5-11 guard
Greg Shead and 6-4 forward
Matt Willrodt, have been key contributors.
Atascocita begins the second half of district play when it travels to College Park (The Woodlands) on Tuesday.
