Kelso gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They put the hurt on the River Ridge Hawks with a sharp 12-2 win. The Hilanders not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24, 2024.
Blake Larwick was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits (and not a single walk). Larwick was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Elliot Hegdahl was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Bryce Collins, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
River Ridge's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.
Coming up, Kelso will welcome Battle Ground at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for River Ridge, they will square off against Gig Harbor at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
