Baseball Recap: Mesquite Wins Going Away Against Marcos De Niza

Mesquite won the last time they faced Marcos de Niza and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Padres with a sharp 12-2 win. Considering the Wildcats have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cooper Leroy made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Mesquite got a massive performance out of Kash Rogers, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, Rogers posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March. Gunnar Gift was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Mesquite hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.

Mesquite's record is now 12-5. As for Marcos de Niza, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Mesquite will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against St. Mary's at 3:45 p.m. As for Marcos de Niza, they will head out to challenge Coconino at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
