Basketball Game Preview: St. Marys Blue Devils vs. Wirt County Tigers

St. Marys is 10-0 against Wirt County since November of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The St. Marys Blue Devils will face off against the Wirt County Tigers at 7:00 p.m. St. Marys will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

St. Marys is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 90-44 victory over Tyler. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 20 points or more this season.

St. Marys' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Addie Davis, who went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on her way to 25 points along with six assists and six boards, and Brynnley Bulluck, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. With that strong performance, Davis is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Callie Powell, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 15 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: St. Marys was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Wirt County came into Sunday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Magnolia 40-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since December 1, 2023.

St. Marys' win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.6 points. As for Wirt County, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.

Everything came up roses for St. Marys against Wirt County in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 66-39 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Marys since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
