Football Recap: Bennett Neilson and Gage Zullo Pace Riverton Defense

If Riverton was riding high fresh off their 30-7 takedown of Cedar Valley last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Silverwolves fell just short of the Bingham Miners by a score of 28-26 on Friday. The Silverwolves haven't had much luck with the Miners recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Riverton lost, don't look at Rocky Downs. Despite the final result, he rushed for 173 yards. Downs is becoming a predictor of the Silverwolves' success: when he posts at least 100 rushing yards the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Kyler Christiansen for the heroic effort on defense: he. Riverton didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.7.

Riverton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Bennett Neilson and Gage Zullo. Zullo got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Bingham got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was John Kulimushi out in front who picked up 152 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 152 receiving yards gave Kulimushi a new career-high. Boston Singley was another key player, having thrown for 253 yards and four touchdowns.

Riverton's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Bingham, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Riverton has already played their next contest, a 41-19 defeat against Mountain Ridge on the 26th. As for Bingham, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 49-39 win against Cedar Valley on the 26th.
