The Mauldin Mavericks had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came out on top against J.L. Mann by a score of 78-71. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Mauldin's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Owen Stewart, who scored 16 points. Stewart is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Sullivan, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why J.L. Mann lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jeremy Cook. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Cook hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Thomas Davidson, who scored 13 points.
Mauldin pushed their record up to 12-10 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.2 points per game. As for J.L. Mann, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-15.
Coincidentally, Mauldin and the Patriots will both be playing the Rams the next time they take the court. Mauldin will head out to face the Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Patriots will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
