The Mays Raiders are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Decatur Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on December 16th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Mays was able to grind out a solid win over Douglass, taking the game 66-58. Given Mays' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Douglass is ranked 124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mays relied on the efforts of Jaqorian Wiggles, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds, and Derron Lindsey ii, who scored 21 points along with seven assists. Lindsey ii is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Davenport Cox, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Decatur scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 69-36 win over Chamblee at home. That 69-36 margin sets a new team best for Decatur this season.
Mays pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.5 points per game. As for Decatur, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.
Mays didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Decatur when the teams last played back in November of 2021, but they still walked away with a 59-55 win. Will Mays repeat their success, or does Decatur have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
