AAAA Region III recap Oct. 23, 2012
South Pointe extended the longest winning streak in AAAA Region III this week by beating Clover, 42-0. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Stallions.
South Pointe took down the Blue Eagles 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
RYLAN WELLS and DERYAN SANDERS gave Fort Mill a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. WELLS threw for 60 yards and one touchdown, while SANDERS ran for 227 yards. Teammate WELLS added to the ground attack by rushing for 86 yards.
AK McCoy was the best wideout in the league this week as Nation Ford defeated Rock Hill. McCoy racked up 11 receptions for 106 yards. Riley Hilton helped Nation Ford's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
Nation Ford's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Falcons feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Dalton Helms has thrown for 1791 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, while McCoy has 51 catches for 949 yards. Daniel Jackson leads the league in rushing with 654 yards.
The marquee game in AAAA Region III this week will be the clash between Northwestern and the Falcons The Trojans enters the contest ranked fifth in the state, while Nation Ford ranks 16th.
McCoy of the the Falcons 's is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 51 receiving yards in this week's game against Northwestern to get there.
There should be lots of points scored when Kyle Richardson's team and Nation Ford face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Trojans comes in having scored 236 this season, while the Falcons have scored 288. Northwestern scored 23 points last week as it beat York.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Strait Herron's team takes on the Cougars. The Stallions have allowed 82 points this season, while York has given up 97. South Pointe allowed 0 points last week as it topped Clover.
The Trojans and Bobby Carroll's team played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Trojans eventually emerging with a 23-21 victory.
