The Ponchatoula Green Wave were the 28-18 winner over the Hammond Tornadoes when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Ponchatoula lost to Hammond on the road by a decisive 31-13 margin on Friday. Ponchatoula has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Drew Palmer threw for 39 yards on only two passes. Cory Jackson was his top target, picking up 42 receiving yards. On the ground, Bishop Davis rushed for 81 yards on only eight carries.
Hammond's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Terin Jones led the charge by throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt. Leon Winsberry jr. also helped out with an impressive 103 receiving yards.
Hammond's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Ponchatoula's QB won't forget Melvin Wilson anytime soon given Wilson sacked him three times.
Ponchatoula has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Hammond, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 5-5.
Ponchatoula will head out on the road to face off against Chalmette at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chalmette will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. Hammond does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
