After flying high against the Dunbar Tigers last Thursday, the Fort Myers Green Wave came back down to earth. Fort Myers was dealt a 71-19 defeat at the hands of Seacrest Country Day on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Fort Myers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 485th, while Seacrest Country Day is ranked 82nd).
Seacrest Country Day's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ty'Nazia Smith, who scored 11 points along with eight assists and four steals. That's the first time this season that Smith posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Kailee Hayhurst, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Fort Myers has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Seacrest Country Day, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-4.
Fort Myers will take on Lely at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lely will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak. As for Seacrest Country Day, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Community School of Naples at 4:00 p.m. on January 24th.
