It was a good run, but the Lamar Raiders unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They were dealt a 67-38 loss at the hands of Simpson Academy. While losing is never fun, Lamar can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Cougars are ranked 26th).
When it comes to explaining why Lamar lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zion Huggins. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Cooper Gordy was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Lamar's loss dropped their record down to 12-16. As for Simpson Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 20 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season.
Lamar will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Jaguars at 5:15 p.m. on February 2nd. As for Simpson Academy, they will be playing at home against the Rebels at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Leake Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
