The Miramonte Matadors fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Benicia Panthers on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 65-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Marcus Robinson and Thomas Zwahlen certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Robinson scored 25 points along with six rebounds, while Zwahlen dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The match was Robinson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Chris Kaufhold, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Miramonte's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Benicia, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Miramonte will be home for the holidays to greet El Camino at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. El Camino will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 846th, while Miramonte is ranked 391st). Benicia won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Granada at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th. Granada is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
