Rifle was the 55-27 winner over Basalt when they last played one another back in October of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Rifle Bears took a blow against the Basalt Longhorns on Friday, falling 42-12.

Daniel also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making ten total tackles and defending a pass in addition to snagging an interception. Taylor Hays was another key receiver, gaining 124 total yards and three touchdowns.
Rifle's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-2. As for Basalt, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rifle will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Roosevelt at 7:00 p.m. on September 20th. Hopefully Rifle focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday.
