The Stony Point Tigers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They strolled past Cornerstone Christian with points to spare, taking the game 52-37. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Stony Point also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.
Stony Point can attribute much of their success to Mary Bortels, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Leann Bellow, who scored 7 points along with 5 steals.
Despite the defeat, Cornerstone Christian saw an underclassman step up: Yasmeen Schmidt scored 19 points along with 8 rebounds. The game was Schmidt's eighth in a row with at least ten points.
Cornerstone Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Stony Point racked up 14.
Stony Point's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Cornerstone Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stony Point will take on Harker Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cornerstone Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kenedy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
