Zach Kelley made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Kelley wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Kalicky, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Titusville was able to grind out a solid victory over North Star on Friday, taking the game 6-2.
Like Girard, Titusville also got a great game from a two-way player: Jaxon Covell. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Covell has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Ian McDonald was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Adam Reynolds also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Titusville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.
Titusville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Girard, their record now sits at 13-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Girard has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Titusville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
