Pierce (Arbuckle, Calif.) scored 22 points in the second quarter to secure a big 35-7 victory over
Mt. Shasta (Calif.) on Saturday.
The Bears rushed for three touchdowns on the ground during the quarter, including two by
Andy Corona.
Pierce was up 28-0 at the half after taking the lead on a
Nate Smith touchdown run in the first quarter.
PHS expanded its lead to 35 points entering the fourth quarter. The Arbuckle school scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run by
Adolfo Ramirez.
With the win the Bears extended their winning streak to six games. Pierce defeated the RedHawks 42-7 last week.
Dominic Tognolini made a difference for the Bears. The junior tight end kicked one extra point.
Corona stood out for PHS in the win. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 11 touchdowns on the season.
Mt. Shasta's lone touchdown came on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter.
The Bears went into the matchup giving up only 8.0 points per game. MS's seven points were below its season average of 11.4 per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Pierce came away with a 35-8 victory.
Pierce (6-0) goes up against Durham in a Sacramento Valley game matchup next week, while Mt. Shasta (0-6) locks horns with Willows also in a Sacramento Valley game.
