Jersey Shore hasn't had much luck against Central Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Jersey Shore is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Jersey Shore fell victim to Warrior Run and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Defenders by a score of 1-0. The Bulldogs' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Landyn Rhea was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Central Mountain put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Shikellamy a 10-0 shutout. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.
Bryce Brungard made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
In other pitching news, Dane Hanna looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Watt Probst was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Blake Walker was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Central Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Central Mountain's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Jersey Shore, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Jersey Shore has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Central Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jersey Shore couldn't quite get it done against Central Mountain when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-2. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
