The Unicoi County Blue Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Science Hill Hilltoppers at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Unicoi County will be looking to keep their 16-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Friday, Unicoi County strolled past Elizabethton with points to spare, taking the game 73-54. Given Unicoi County's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Elizabethton is ranked 267th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Unicoi County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackson Simmons, who scored 28 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Simmons has scored at least a third of Unicoi County's points. Kolby Jones was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds.
Science Hill aren't just finding sucess at home, as their game on Tuesday extended their overall winning streak to four. They enjoyed a cozy 56-37 win over Jefferson County.
Unicoi County is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for Science Hill, their victory bumped their record up to 11-9.
Unicoi County was able to grind out a solid victory over Science Hill in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, winning 62-53. Does Unicoi County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Science Hill turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
