It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Lumpkin County Indians had no problem doing just that on Friday. They skirted past the Warriors 45-42. Lumpkin County's victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lumpkin County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cal Faulkner, who rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. Mason Sullens was another key contributor, rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Oconee County still got an impressive performance from Caiden Wood, who rushed for 324 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Wood really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run.
Lumpkin County pushed their record up to 12-0 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.4 points per game. As for Oconee County, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Lumpkin County will look to defend their home field on Friday against Savannah Christian at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Savannah Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games. Oconee County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
