The Smithville Seminoles lost against the West Union Eagles back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Smithville fell 44-37 to West Union. While losing is never fun, Smithville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while West Union is ranked 98th).
Several Seminoles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mary Haley Hood, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and two steals. Hood has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 19 times she's played. Halle Sargent was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.
Smithville's loss dropped their record down to 12-18. As for West Union, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-9.
Smithville will take on Falkner at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. West Union does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
