It was a good run, but the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Trojans unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 40-33 to Bethune-Bowman. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Hunter-Kinard-Tyler of the 29-19 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2021.
Despite the defeat, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler saw an underclassman step up: Aysiah Bonaparte scored 21 points along with two steals. That was a full 63.6% of Hunter-Kinard-Tyler's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Akeira Blue, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Hunter-Kinard-Tyler bumped their record down to 10-3 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for Bethune-Bowman, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Hunter-Kinard-Tyler will be playing at home against Ridge Spring-Monetta at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridge Spring-Monetta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Hunter-Kinard-Tyler is ranked 98th). As for Bethune-Bowman, they will head out on the road to square off against Bamberg-Ehrhardt at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bamberg-Ehrhardt's defense has only allowed 27.6 points per game this season, so Bethune-Bowman's offense will have their work cut out for them.
