It was a good run, but Santa Cruz Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 60-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Arete Prep CHARGERS. The Dust Devils lost against the CHARGERS in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 66-32 score last time.

Santa Cruz Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ty Jarius Salazar, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Javar Williams, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards.

Arete Prep's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Crew Oetjen, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 17 boards. The contest was Oetjen's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Harrison Kremer, who posted 18 points and seven rebounds.

Santa Cruz Valley's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-4. As for Arete Prep, they now also have a winning record of 5-4.

Santa Cruz Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-49 victory against San Miguel on the 16th. As for Arete Prep, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-53 win against Trivium Prep on the 16th.
