The Springfield Tigers stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They put the hurt on Lowellville with a sharp 47-25 win. The victory was just what Springfield needed coming off of a 47-18 defeat in their prior contest.
Springfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kendall Maughan led the charge by scoring 15 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Maughan has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jameka Brungard, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Lowellville saw an underclassman step up: Sydney Procick scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Lowellville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springfield only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Springfield has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Lowellville, their defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield will take on McKinley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. McKinley is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Lowellville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mineral Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mineral Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lowellville in Ohio (Mineral Ridge is ranked 220th, while Lowellville is ranked 621st).
