The Northeast Guilford Rams suffered their biggest loss since November 17, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 84-62 loss at the hands of Atkins. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Northeast Guilford lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dennis Fountain. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 31 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fountain has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Webb, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Northeast Guilford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Atkins got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaleb Roope out in front who scored 18 points. Roope hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Laithan Atkins, who scored 14 points.
Northeast Guilford has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Atkins, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northeast Guilford will take on Carlisle at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Carlisle focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday. As for Atkins, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against High Point Central at 8:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (High Point Central is ranked 391st, while Atkins is ranked 410th).
