The Lyndhurst Golden Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Waldwick Warriors at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Lyndhurst focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday.
Lyndhurst took care of business in their home opener (and then some). They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Garfield 58-17 at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-2.
Lyndhurst can attribute much of their success to Sam Mayer, who scored 18 points along with five steals, and Asya Akar, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliana Gonzalez, who scored two points along with three steals.
Waldwick kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 45-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastern Christian. Waldwick has struggled against Eastern Christian recently, as their match on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Lyndhurst pushed their record up to 1-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Waldwick, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Lyndhurst came up short against Waldwick when the teams last played back in February, falling 42-30. Can Lyndhurst avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
