It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Platt had no problem doing just that on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Newtown Nighthawks 7-6. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Tyler Cioffi made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Cioffi was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
In other pitching news, Devyn Page looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Caleb Datchuck was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jeam Ortiz, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Platt's victory bumped their record up to 15-11-1. As for Newtown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-15.
Coming up, Platt will face off against Fairfield Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jesuits have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. Newtown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
