Lorena is 8-2 against China Spring since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Leopards will challenge the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Lorena is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Lorena took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over Gatesville.
Jaylie Werner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. Werner was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Lorena let Brooklynn Rodriguez and Clara Andrews run wild. Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Andrews went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs Rodriguez has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Holly Barrett, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Lorena hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, China Spring won against La Vega on Tuesday with 28 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Cougars blew past the Pirates 28-0. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Chelsea Buro made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Carly Blalock and Lakyn Stinson did most of the damage at the plate: Blalock went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Stinson went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Koehler Martin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
China Spring has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lorena, their record now sits at 18-8.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lorena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like China Spring struggles in that department as they've averaged .406. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lorena beat China Spring 6-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Do the Leopards have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
