The Christian Community Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They lost to HEARTS for Jesus Christ at home by a decisive 48-33 margin. While losing is never fun, Christian Community can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 684th, while HEARTS for Jesus Christ is ranked 321st).
When it comes to explaining why Christian Community lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sarah Solak. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 48.5% of Christian Community's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
HEARTS for Jesus Christ had a senior duo take command as Alex Zelenka dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds and Maria Cottenden dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Zelenka has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played.
Christian Community's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for HEARTS for Jesus Christ, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.
Christian Community will head out on the road to take on Heritage Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage Christian is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for HEARTS for Jesus Christ, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Temple Christian at 6:00 p.m.
