Warwick has gone 8-2 against Goshen Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Wildcats will take on the Gladiators at 4:15 p.m.
On Wednesday, Warwick came up short against Minisink Valley and fell 9-6. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jack Gobinski was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Michael Molinelli was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Goshen Central came out on top against Washingtonville on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Gladiators blew past the Wizards 13-3. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Gladiators considering their one-run performance the game before.
Stephen Kovacs made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Kovacs was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Noel Irizarry was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Nick Smykla also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Goshen Central lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Goshen Central's record now sits at 7-4-1. As for Warwick, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Warwick hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Goshen Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Warwick came out on top in a nail-biter against Goshen Central when the teams last played two weeks ago, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
