It was a good run, but the Wayne County Wildcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 67-60 to Marion County. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the defeat, Wayne County had strong showings from Justice Bell, who scored 27 points along with nine rebounds, and Cayman Camfield, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 36.7% of Wayne County's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Sayler Skelton, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Wayne County's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Marion County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wayne County will challenge Collinwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Collinwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 396th, while Wayne County is ranked 152nd). Marion County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Brilliant at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th.
