The Maiden Blue Devils had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 57-43 win over Newton-Conover. Winning is a bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, as Maiden did.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Maiden to victory, but perhaps none more so than Khiara Culliver, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Culliver is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Willow Bass, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Newton-Conover lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sara Sain, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Sain is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hadleigh Swagger, who scored 18 points.
Maiden has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Newton-Conover, they dropped their record down to 4-13 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maiden will take on East Burke at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. East Burke knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 contests -- so hopefully Maiden likes a good challenge. As for Newton-Conover, they will head out on the road to square off against West Caldwell at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. West Caldwell is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
