The Loris Lions were the 69-45 winner over the Dillon Wildcats when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Loris fell to Dillon 47-41. Loris has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Loris lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Janiya Richburg. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Richburg is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of LaKeya Martin, who scored four points along with 14 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Loris smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dillon only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Dillon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Treasure Davis out in front who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. Davis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Mariah Campbell was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five steals.
Loris has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Dillon, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.
Loris will head out on the road to challenge Carvers Bay at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Carvers Bay focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday. Dillon won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Aynor at 6:30 p.m. on January 11th. Aynor is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
