Softball Recap: Sahuarita Extends Home Winning Streak to 12

Sahuarita was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They put the hurt on the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks with a sharp 12-2 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won 16 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jayd Villa spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gracie Soto, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Eliana Romero, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Sahuarita always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ironwood Ridge only posted an OBP of .300.

Sahuarita's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Ironwood Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.

Sahuarita wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 12-0 win against Cholla on the 10th. As for Ironwood Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-0 defeat against Sabino on the 11th.
