Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Frewsburg

Frewsburg had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top against the Brocton Bulldogs by a score of 5-1. The Bears have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bulldogs, too.

Frewsburg got a great performance from Aidan Gruber as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Gruber has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chase Haglund was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Frewsburg is 13-0-1 when Haglund posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Sheesley, who earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Frewsburg pushed their record up to 14-5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Brocton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Frewsburg will host Pine Valley Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Brocton, they will be playing at home against Clymer Central/Sherman/Panama at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolfpack have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
