This season hasn't been kind to the Grand Canyon Phantoms, who are still winless after their 17th game. They took a 54-37 bruising from Fredonia on Friday. Grand Canyon was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Fredonia apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Grand Canyon saw an underclassman step up: Tristan Lambon scored 18 points. That's the first time this season that Lambon scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Kolarevic, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Grand Canyon bumped their record down to 0-17 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Fredonia, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grand Canyon won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against El Capitan/Centennial Academy at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. El Capitan/Centennial Academy will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. Fredonia won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Williams at 12:30 p.m. on January 13th. Williams is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.9 points per game.
