Baseball Recap: Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Takes a Loss

Fort Wayne Bishop Luers had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 6-6 to make it four. They fell just short of the Heritage Patriots by a score of 7-6. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Fort Wayne Bishop Luers got a good showing from Tom Hogg, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Hogg has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Fort Wayne Bishop Luers saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Milo Diehm, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI. Ben Kiracofe was another, going 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Heritage, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games.

On Heritage's side, the team relied heavily on Cameron Rauner, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Landri Linder, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Fort Wayne Bishop Luers will welcome Fort Wayne Snider at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Heritage, they are taking a road trip to take on Southern Wells at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.55 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of.
