The Kennedale Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Alvarado Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kennedale will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Dunbar typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday Kennedale proved too difficult a challenge. Kennedale walked away with a 14-7 win over Dunbar.
Kennedale can attribute much of their success to Laurrence Watkins, who rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last match, Alvarado made sure to put some points up on the board against Life Waxahachie on Friday. Alvarado took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 70-41 victory over Life Waxahachie. Given Alvarado's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 275th, while Life Waxahachie is ranked 821st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cardea Collier got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 206 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.9 yards per attempt. Demarcus Belton was another key contributor, picking up 137 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Kennedale's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Diamond Hill-Jarvis and 3-7 Castleberry (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 35% over those games). As for Alvarado, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Kennedale took a serious blow against Alvarado when the teams last played back in September, falling 47-7. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Alvarado's Collier, who rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 passes. Now that Kennedale knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
