The Dougherty Trojans can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 62-39 margin over Columbus. With Dougherty ahead 35-12 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Jatiana Chambers was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 18 points, ten rebounds, and 11 assists. That's the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Teaylia Hawkins, who scored 12 points.
When it comes to explaining why Columbus lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alyna Gilbert. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with two steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Gilbert posted two or more blocks. Cristina Christophe was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Dougherty pushed their record up to 10-6 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Columbus, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dougherty will face off against Monroe at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Monroe is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.9 points per game. Columbus won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Thomasville at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. Hopefully Thomasville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 last Saturday.
